This study takes a longitudinal perspective to examine how intersecting identities shape wage trajectories over time.

Against the backdrop of ongoing demographic and social changes, we critically examine how diversity manifests in the workplace and how it can be researched from a social science perspective. The course emphasizes the development of students’ methodological skills: from formulating a compelling research question and hypotheses, to designing a suitable research design to investigate workplace inequality and inclusion. Through the lens of contemporary challenges — such as gender inequality and underrepresentation in leadership — students learn how to connect theoretical concepts with real-world organizational dynamics and begin shaping their own research projects.

We explore how societal shifts — such as increased female labor participation, demographic change, and international migration — are shaping increasingly diverse workplaces. Students engage with questions such as: What types of diversity exist? How does diversity affect collaboration and performance in teams? What challenges arise, and what opportunities can diversity create? And ultimately: How can organizations manage diversity effectively? In addition to exploring topics like the gender pay gap and female representation in top management, the course integrates academic writing training to support students in crafting their very first term papers.
